The Meghalaya Spice Festival, hosted over three lively days at Jio World in Mumbai, brought the essence of Meghalaya’s flavours, culture, and entrepreneurial spirit to a wider national audience. The event served as a vibrant platform for local entrepreneurs, women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs), farmers, and emerging brands from the state to engage with consumers, industry stakeholders, and market networks in Mumbai.

A diverse array of organic spices, value-added products, and traditional produce was on display, reflecting Meghalaya’s growing reputation as a centre for premium organic agriculture. Visitors experienced the state’s rich offerings through curated product exhibits, interactive stalls, and authentic ethnic food experiences led by entrepreneurs and SHGs representing different regions of Meghalaya.

Beyond product showcases, the festival also emphasized policy engagement, industry collaboration, and cultural exchange. The formal inaugural session included an address by Smt. N. Bhavani Sri, IAS, Secretary of the National Turmeric Board, followed by a special address from Dr. Vijay Kumar D, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Government of Meghalaya.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Shakeel P. Ahammed, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, while the closing remarks were presented by Smt. Saloni Verma, IAS, Deputy Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Meghalaya.

An important feature of the festival was the Industry Interaction Forum, which explored opportunities within Meghalaya’s organic spice ecosystem. Additionally, Business-to-Government (B2G) meetings focused on both spices and tourism, fostering dialogue between policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives. These sessions created avenues for collaboration, investment, and expansion into new markets.

Cultural expression formed a key part of the celebration, with dedicated cultural evenings showcasing traditional performances and artistic heritage from Meghalaya. Musical nights added further vibrancy, featuring live performances by local artists and bringing the distinctive sounds of the region to audiences in Mumbai.

Visitors also had the chance to explore Meghalaya’s culinary traditions through a variety of ethnic dishes and spice-based delicacies prepared by local entrepreneurs and community groups.

Promoting Meghalaya’s Organic Identity

A notable highlight was the presentation of Meghalaya Collectives Organic, a brand under MEGNOLIA. This initiative represents certified organic products cultivated by farmers on verified organic land, reinforcing the state’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and enhancing the visibility of its produce in broader markets.

Expanding Market Linkages

Over the course of three days, the festival offered an enriching platform for entrepreneurs, SHGs, industry stakeholders, and visitors. More than just a showcase, it enabled meaningful engagement through discussions, partnerships, and exposure to new business opportunities.

By combining industry dialogue, B2G interactions, cultural showcases, and culinary experiences, the Meghalaya Spice Festival successfully created a space for collaboration and celebration, strengthening Meghalaya’s presence in national markets.

The organisers extended their appreciation to the people of Mumbai for their enthusiastic participation and support. The event marks a significant step toward fostering stronger partnerships, enhancing market access, and creating long-term opportunities for Meghalaya’s local enterprises and entrepreneurs.
